China is providing four armed drones to Pakistan amid tensions on the border with India. Beijing says the drone system is being sent to protect the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
There are two systems of armed drones, two drones and one ground station. The drone can be used for surveillance as well as attacks. Such Chinese drones have the capability to launch 12 surface-to-air missiles.
China is building an economic corridor by investing huge sums of money under the One Belt-One Road (OBOR) project. Pakistan is also involved in that project. It is believed that China is sending the drones to monitor the troubled Gadar area of Balochistan province. Besides, Beijing forces are stationed at Gadar port. The armed drone system is for his safety.
According to Kolkata-based Anandabazar newspaper, experts say there are doubts about how the armed drones will be used. As a result, India has started talks with the US to buy the same type of Predator B class drone.
Amid tensions over the border with India in Ladakh, many see Beijing's move as a different strategy. Over the past decade, Beijing has been selling the Wing Lung Two class unmanned aerial vehicle to many countries. In fact, China is now at the top in drone exports.
It is learned that New Delhi is also in the process of supplying drones to Pakistan amid tensions over the border with China in Ladakh. India has been thinking of buying Predator B class drones from the US for a long time. New Delhi has been vocal about it again. Such drones are capable of surveillance as well as hitting targets. The drone also has missiles and laser-guided bombs. The United States has used such drones in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.
